I have been participating in a wonderful project started by my Yoga mentor, Shiva Rea. It’s called Tending the Fire.
It has had a big impact on the way I have been thinking about the seasons!
This season especially. Not the ‘Christmas’ season specifically but this period in the year where we have gone through the lightness of summer into the darkness, or so it seems, the clocks moving and the nights drawing in.
A feeling a dread and drabness takes over our consciousness and people talk about the gloom and cold.
As I sit here, its dark outside, and cold but I am learning about the advantages…. what about the advantages?
There are some….really… and in essence its about bringing light into our homes and creating and sharing the warmth we kindle in our hearts with our family and friends and the wider community.
There are other things to love and appreciate this contrast for. I’ve started my love winter list..
I love winter clothing
I love mittens
I love muffled walks in the snow
I love soup
I love candles
I love log fires
I love to spice up food
I love November skys
I love beach huts with snow on the roof
I love exercising inside
I love Padded coats
I love winter projects and creativity
I love planning next years garden
I love not weeding
(Yes, okay, I am admitting that the back end of January is a bit sucky!)
My challenge to you, is to look at your world with awareness, being present to the moment, feeling the peace and reflection of this time of year…… and make your own list of winter appreciation.
The alternative is to wish your life away and there is just no point in that.
