Let me tell you a little about the Radiance Retreat.
It’s inspired by a yogic text called the Radiance Sutras – which describes 112 ways to access meditation as a full body spirituality, accepting every breath as a doorway into deep contact with the energies of life. A pathway to peace.
We all deserve to feel peace.
Many years ago as a teenager I started doing yoga with my mother, who eventually stopped going but I continued.
Fast forward to the 90’s … I was still doing yoga, trying different styles when I could get to a class with a grreat teacher.
Later, about 16 years ago I experienced an emotional crisis.
My mind was not my friend, working overtime, impressionable to negative situations and all bad news. I was emotionally overwhelmed and pretty exhausted with it all.
I had to find a way to stop my racing mind becuase I knew I was heading for trouble.
I had one advantage: My fascination with personal development and self understanding.
I realised that my beliefs and thoughts were the problem, I had to manage my mind.
I dedicated myself to an energetic, flowing style of yoga and Beryl Birch Benders ‘Power Yoga’ as a way to control my thoughts.
I knew I was somewhat on the right track and I started to make headway.
The physical practice of yoga is not enough on its own but it does create the conditions to glimps what is possible.
I threw a ton of time and energy into learning more about personal growth and spirituality – everthing I could find that would help me figure out my mind.
I realised that I lacked faith and trust in myself.
My thoughts and beliefs about me and the world prevented me from making descisions or I made descisions that weren’t really right for me.
I had to create some space between my thorughts so that I could slow them down to examin them and allow my intuition – my innate knowing, to give me the answers or my next steps without being reactive, triggered or panicked.
One of my teachers introduced me to the energetic shifts that were possible when connecting to the energy of the heart.
Through powerful breathwork practices, creating states of meditation and teaching my body what safety, support and relaxation felt like, I began to change the quality of my thoughts and develop resilience to the things that troubled me.
It’s a continuing practice.
Right now, were’re in a period of challenge, unrest and change in the world.
The chances are, whatever your emotional set point is, even if your personal circumstances are not of concern – you are feeling these currents.
Wherever you are on the scale of feeling out of sorts, anxious or depressed – building resilience is the tool you need.
The Radiance Retreat workshop grew out of my understanding of seeing and feeling the benefits of developing mental and emotional resisilence and of watching people close to me suffer physical illness due to overhwhelming mental and emotional strain. (The body always keeps the score.)
If any of this resonates with you – You need the Radiance Retreat
The next Radiance Retreat is happening soon.
Gentle movement, supported poses, breathwork, meditation and journalling.
It’s a virtual event, meaning it’s via your computer in real time – not a recording . (Although a recording will be available if you can’t make it live.)
Interestingly, if you want to develop a meditation practice, creating a small sacred space in your own environment is also part of the practice.
I am still open to doing these live and in person at a venue, but we have found that the beautiful spaciousness it creates is maintained more easily when we do it in the comfort of our own cosy space.
