Water and Hydration

Detox – Little things mean a lot!

I just had a quick whirl around Amazon to see what is available to help us Detox!

If you have a mind to you can buy :

Cleansing and Detoxifying Drink Powder Sachets

Colon Cleanse detox capsules

Inner flush capsules

De-toxifing foot pads

Detox Tea bags

Detox Bath potion

Detox Liquid

and books of course – many books.

There is nothing wrong with Detoxing, I am all for it. If you want to keep healthy long term and tidy up any chronic health issues like allergies and digestive issues,  it can be the thing that resets your body to better health.

In fact I  have designed my Core Vitality Cleanse  to help you to cleanse and detox your body safely and naturally.

What I have issue with is the idea that just by buying a tablet, potion, tea bag or foot pad, that you are able to cleanse your body of anything toxic that ails you.

Detoxing is much simpler and closer to home than that!

Let me give you a quick rundown of how the body naturally detoxes itself- it’s really very clever!

There are systems already in place to help;

Your WEE, your POO, your SWEAT and your BREATH.

All of these things get rid of toxins in your body. Optimising the way these systems function is the first step to achieving natural systemic detoxification.

If these are not fully functioning at their best, nothing is going to help you as much as rectifying their functioning!

So let me run through these four things:

Your WEE should be clear and pale in colour, so pale that you can’t really tell if you have been –

I know it’s getting personal!

If you are drinking enough water, so that you are fully hydrated and that is about 4 pints or 2 litres a day, then your wee will be like this. Simples!

There is nothing more detoxifying than being fully hydrated – it supports all the other systems that contribute to you being clean and clear!

Next … POO or poop!

You should have a complete bowel movement every day. Really!

A complete bowel movement is one that empties you out in one go and that means it could be 12 or more inches long.

If you need laxatives to make you go then something needs attending to, and mostly that thing is number one! Litterally, it’s your number ones… are you peeing as mentioned above? If your pee / wee is not optimal, neither will your poop be optimal. It just wont. I can guarantee that if you have very little wee leaving your body and it’s deep in colour, you probably don’t poo enough or have trouble shifting it.

The other things to pay attention to are having enough sources of dietary fibre in the form of fruit and especially vegetables – green vegetable are particularly cleansing and good for detoxing even without their fibre benefits, and secondly, not eating  frequent quantities of processed food as it has very little fibre  in it. Dietary choices and lack of hydration are the most common causes of constipation.

Not going daily has a toxic effect and the whole of your system – bad breath, headaches, fuzzy thinking, distracted thoughts, irritability and insomnia – can all be a side effect of being backed up!  Not going daily can also be due to not having supportive daily habits and rituals (link) which you can read more about here (link).

Exercise is a contributory factor for detoxing as it assists the removal of toxins through your SWEAT. Your skin is one of the largest organs of detoxification and sweating is a very natural and vital part of the process. Being hydrated assists the body to be able to sweat freely and release the toxins that need to be passed out of the body, which is why sweat can sometimes smell strongly.

Finally – your BREATH helps to detox and purify your body. Exercise can help to facilitate this function – another good reason to exercise frequently, especially to a point where your breathing becomes deeper and more rhythmic. In addition to this, breathing practices consciously performed – Pranayama as they are referred to in the world of Yoga, involve  specific practices that are meant to have a deeply detoxifying effect on the system.

So, before you reach for a pill, powder or potion ask yourself if your pee, poo, sweat and breath are all functioning at their best by the things you attend to on a daily basis.

 Little things mean a lot!
